OUR STORY
Russ & Sharon Peterson have been involved in Parenting ministry since 2010. Their ministry was birthed when they joined a new church launch in 2010 that was primarily made up of young couples—some with very young children. They were tasked with equipping young parents with biblical wisdom and tools to raise healthy, capable, and devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
They developed a 6-session workshop titled “Parenting Boot Camp” targeting the early years of parenting. As their church—and the children—grew, they used Paul Tripp’s “Getting to the Heart of Parenting” materials to facilitate workshops aimed at all stages of parenting. Paul Tripp did a great job presenting the content through videos, and Russ & Sharon developed questions to spark discussion and reflection at table groups. It was a great collaboration.
The Petersons currently have 3 married children and 8 grandchildren and reside in Colorado Springs, CO. When they were raising their kids in the 1980’s and 1990’s, there weren’t a lot of parenting resources, and they couldn’t take much from their own upbringing, so they leaned on The Bible and learned from other parents to determine what worked and what didn’t. They learned through their own mistakes and successes what parenting strategies and principles yield long-term success. They learned what things are most important and what to prioritize when raising kids.
Their desire is to make solid, Biblical resources available to parents with kids at any stage of growth, to help them avoid making unnecessary mistakes. There’s a saying that “Experience isn’t the only teacher, but it’s the only one a fool will ever know”. While you definitely can learn things by experience, it’s also good to learn from other parents’ experiences as well. We think the resources on this website are both sound and Biblical, but that doesn’t mean you have to follow all the advice you hear or read. Every family dynamic is different and will do things a bit differently. Our hope is that these resources will provide you with a great baseline for developing strategies and intentional parenting systems in your family to model Christ-like love and grace to your kids so that they too will want to follow Jesus and be part of creating a spiritual legacy for generations to come.
